ASHEcon Welcomes New Executive Director

We are thrilled to announce the selection of David Slusky, Ph.D, as the new Executive Director to lead the American Society of Health Economists.

David will lead ASHEcon after many years as a member, conference participant, session organizer, program chair, and ASHEcon newsletter editor. David is the De-Min and Chin-Sha Wu Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Kansas, where he is also (by courtesy) an Associate Professor of Population Health. He is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (in the Health and Health Care programs), a Research Fellow at IZA – Institute of Labor Economics, and a co-editor of the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management (JPAM), where he serves in a managing editor capacity. He is a co-founder and co-organizer of the Electronic Health Economics Colloquium (EHEC), which has recently begun a partnership with ASHEcon. He is the founder and the lead organizer of the Kansas Health Economics Conference, for which he was awarded a multi-year NSF grant.

“I am delighted that David is taking the position as Executive Director of ASHE. David brings enormous energy and talents to ASHE, and we are lucky to have him in this position,” David Cutler, ASHEcon President, said.

“I am thrilled to have this opportunity. I love ASHEcon. It has been an integral part of my professional life and has been ever since I became a member since 2013. I am looking forward to working on ASHEcon’s core programs, including a safe in-person conference, a regular newsletter, the top field journal in health economics for research about the U.S, and now a monthly virtual seminar series (EHEC). I am also excited to help ASHEcon be a vehicle for social change, supporting and expanding its numerous initiatives including its diversity scholarships and its economics of health equity interest group,” David Slusky said.

David is originally from Philadelphia and has a Ph.D., and M.A. in Economics from Princeton University (where his advisor was ASHEcon Past President Janet Currie). He also holds an undergraduate degree in Physics and International Studies from Yale University. Before graduate school, he spent three years as a management consultant at Oliver Wyman, working on strategy, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.
