Postdoctoral Associate in Health Services Research

Department of Population Health Sciences

Weill Cornell Medicine, New York City, NY

The  Department of Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City is recruiting a postdoctoral associate in its Division of Health Policy & Economics to conduct health services research focusing on high need, high cost patients (HNHC). The candidate will conduct research identifying HNHC patients in Medicare, Medicaid, and commercially insured populations; incorporating individual- and community- level social determinants of health data to define HNHC patients; aligning and evaluating care models for HNHC patient groups; and applying our HNHC patient framework to help hospitals, health systems, and insurers improve health care delivery. Our HNHC work has drawn much attention from multiple funding sources.

The postdoctoral associate will work under the supervision of Dr. Rainu Kaushal, Department Chair and Nanette Latiman Distinguished Professor, in collaboration with Dr. Yonkang Zang, assistant professor. In addition, there are multiple outstanding faculty, postdoctoral and research staff collaborators in the department and across the institution.

The ideal candidate will be a quantitative researcher with experience analyzing large, health insurance claims-based analytic files. The Department has significant data resources, including nationally representative Medicare, Medicaid and insurance claims data, the INSIGHT Clinical Research Network which contains clinical data on 12 million unique patients drawn from electronic health records across 5 New York City health systems, and a state-of-the-art computing environment.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in health services research, health economics, health policy, or a related field
  • Experience conducting research using administrative data
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
    • Interest in aging research
