The Department of Health Management and Policy in the Miami Herbert Business School at the University of Miami is seeking a colleague who has demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate students in various areas of health management, health policy, health economics, health IT, health care marketing, or related fields. Experience directing a specialized Masters program is desired, as the successful candidate will also assume the role of Academic Director for our Master of Health Administration (MHA) program. Qualified candidates shall have: a terminal degree in health services research, health economics, health management, health policy, or related field; demonstrated excellence in pedogogy; and the ability to teach business courses in health management, health policy, and related areas. Depending on qualifications, the position will be offered as an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Professional Practice, Senior Lecturer, or Lecturer. The position is not tenure earning.

Position description

The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at UC San Diego (hwsph.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for an Assistant Professor rank faculty position in Health Policy in the area of health policy, health economics, or health services research.

The School has focal areas of Behavioral Medicine, Biostatistics & Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Policy, Health Equity, Public Mental Health, and Climate and Environmental Health and offers teaching and student mentoring opportunities in our BS in Public Health, MPH, PhD in Public Health (administered jointly with San Diego State University), MS and PhD in Biostatistics degree programs, and an MAS in Leadership of Healthcare Organizations run in conjunction with UCSD Extension. Further, the School has a Preventive Medicine Residency program. The School has strong collaborative research programs facilitated by Research Centers of Excellence focused on Health Promotion and Equity, Women’s Health, Tobacco Control, and Wireless and Population Health Systems and has extensive collaborations with the School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, Jacobs School of Engineering, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Moores Cancer Center, the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, and with other partners across

the UC San Diego campus. Partnerships with the community and health agencies are fundamental to the School. The School houses five recharge cores providing services to both UCSD and the external community, and the School’s faculty and academics hold ~$125M total awarded grants and contracts.

Candidates are required to show a demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity by submitting a Diversity Statement of past contributions and/or future plans of excellence in this area as part of their application for an academic appointment.

Appointment will be at the Assistant Professor rank. Series will be 50% Ladder Rank (Tenure-Track) / 50% In-Residence. Appointment requires candidates to be partially self-funded, e.g., with grants.

 Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Candidates must have a PhD, DrPh, or related doctoral degree by the time of appointment. Doctoral degree must be in Public Health, Health Policy / Economics, or a related field.
