ANNOUNCEMENT: HEALTH ECONOMIST,
HEALTH SERVICES AND ECONOMICS BRANCH
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is conducting a national search for a Health Economist to develop, coordinate, support and conduct innovative studies of cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment. With rapid changes in cancer care delivery in the U.S. and the continued implementation of the Affordable Care Act, the person serving in this position will have a unique opportunity to influence cancer research directions and inform health care policy.
Candidates for the position should have a Ph.D. or equivalent training in health services research or health economics, as well as demonstrated experience with health care delivery data and quantitative methods, and a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Experience in designing studies to examine health insurance products and their influence on health care delivery is desired, but not required.
The position is in the Health Services and Economics Branch (HSEB) of the Applied Research Program within the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences in Rockville, MD. HSEB scientists study demographic, social, economic, policy, and organizational and health system factors as they relate to providing preventive, screening, diagnostic, treatment, and end-of-life services for cancer. This work is carried out through the development and use of:
- data resources (e.g., linked SEER-Medicare data, the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey Experiences with Cancer Survivorship Supplement);
- survey instruments and other research resources;
- relevant analytic methods.

This is a career position with the U.S. government and requires that the applicant is a citizen of the U.S. The salary range for this position is $89,033 to $136,771.
