Associate or Full Professor of Health Policy and Administration, Pennsylvania State University

The Department of Health Policy and Administration (HPA) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applicants for a tenured faculty position at the associate or full professor level.

We seek a colleague who has established a national reputation in the field of health services research or any of its disciplinary fields, including but not limited to economics, management, demography, policy, sociology, or public and population health. The successful candidate will join a vibrant community of scholars dedicated to improving health care services and the health of populations through research, teaching and service. Competitive applicants will have the demonstrated ability to conduct research in a multi-disciplinary setting, including a track record for securing external research funding to support one’s scholarship. Successful applicants will join a multidisciplinary faculty and will be expected to conduct research, teach, and advise students in doctoral, master’s and/or bachelor’s degree programs.

We envision the successful applicant as a key component of the department’s growth strategy, with active involvement in the recruitment and selection of additional faculty hires. Compensation is highly competitive as are non-salary elements of the compensation package, and the position itself is a fully funded, “hard-money” position. Penn State has excellent support services available to faculty members and the College of Health and Human Development and the HPA department is committed to providing the necessary resources critical to helping the successful candidate further his or her research prominence.

The Department of Health Policy and Administration (see the following link for a more detailed summary of the HPA department: http://www.hhdev.psu.edu/hpa/hpa-highlights) is an academic unit of the College of Health and Human Development. It offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree, resident and online Master of Health Administration (M.H.A.) degrees, a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Health Policy and Administration, and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree. The department currently has 19 faculty members including 12 tenured or tenure track faculty, with authorization to grow that number to 16 or more tenured or tenure track faculty over the next few years. Currently, HPA faculty members are actively engaged in important externally funded research totaling more than $4.7 million annually. Opportunities to collaborate with other Penn State faculty include work in the Center for Health Care Policy and Research, College of Medicine, Center for Integrated Healthcare Delivery Systems, Social Science Research Institute, Population Research Institute, Children, Youth, and Families Consortium, Center for Healthy Aging, Methodology Center, and Prevention Research Center. These provide a vibrant environment for collaborative approaches to research and teaching in population health, health economics, health care management, and health policy.

The Pennsylvania State University is a land grant institution and member of the Big 10 Conference. Recently Penn State was ranked in the top 50 of research universities in the world by Times Higher Education (http://www.psu.edu/this-is-penn-state/rankings). The University Park campus, located in State College, PA, is the largest campus with an enrollment of nearly 40,000 students and offers more than 100 programs of graduate study. The surrounding community of State College is a quintessential university town well known for its exceptional quality of life, including a low cost of living, a growing economy, a diverse offering of cultural and recreational opportunities, and excellent resources for families including well regarded local school systems. State College is served by three commercial airlines and is within a three hour drive to Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Baltimore, and a four hour drive to Washington, D.C. and New York City. The University and the College have a variety of resources available to assist scholars with a transition to Penn State from another university and location.
