SCHOOL OF PUBLIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS
INDIANA UNIVERSITY-BLOOMINGTON CAMPUS
HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT
Faculty Director, Master of Science in Healthcare Management
The School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at Indiana University-Bloomington seeks applications from accomplished professionals from the practitioner and/or academic ranks for a non-tenure track faculty position in the general field of healthcare management. This position will also serve as the Faculty Director of the new Master of Science in Healthcare Management (MSHM) program offered jointly by SPEA and the Indiana University Kelley School of Business (KSOB), providing an opportunity to liaison between the two schools. The successful candidate will begin employment as soon as is possible.
The new joint graduate degree with the Kelley School of Business will be welcoming its first students in Summer 2019. This program offers students from a wide variety of undergraduate educational backgrounds an opportunity to prepare for exciting careers in the growing field of healthcare management, whether it is bio-life sciences, the health insurance industry, nonprofit health organizations, healthcare consulting, long-term care, or any number of newly developing fields.
The Faculty Director, who will report to the SPEA Executive Associate Dean for Bloomington in coordination with the Kelley School of Business, will be responsible for assisting SPEA’s Marketing and Communications office in promoting the program. The director will also be responsible for coordinating curriculum development, course scheduling, and degree requirements and for directing student recruitment, career issues, and student engagement for the new MSHM program. In consultation with the Executive Associate Dean, the Director will determine how best to manage program decisions, admissions decisions, and student financial aid awards. The Director will work in close consultation with the Director of the Master’s Program Office and the other professional staff in the office. The Director will also collaborate with the SPEA Career Education and Professional Advancement Office on internships and placement and potentially with other units of the University. It is expected that the successful candidate will also teach courses in the MSHM program. Opportunities also exist to engage with SPEA’s existing undergraduate BS in Healthcare Management and Policy program.
SPEA expects this appointment to be offered at the clinical level. The term “Clinical” describes appointees whose primary duties are teaching students and residents/fellows and providing professional service in the clinical setting. Service as the Faculty Director for the MSHM is consistent with such professional service. A graduate degree in business administration, public policy, public affairs, health administration, or other appropriate field is required. Significant business experience in the healthcare industry or healthcare program administration is desired. An essential quality of the Director is to genuinely enjoy working with students in a highly interactive and engaged manner. Successful candidates will exude energy and drive and demonstrate highly effective communication skills.
We are especially interested in applicants with a record of successful teaching and/or supervision of students and employees from all backgrounds (including first-generation college students, low-income students, racial and ethnic minorities, women, LGBTQ, etc.) and an interest in contributing to SPEA’s programs, curricular offerings, and research portfolio in ways that enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion; applicants are encouraged to address these topics in the letter of application.
