Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in health economics, health services research, health policy or related fields.
- Strong track-record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Strong quantitative skills with experience in application of econometric/statistical models and large claims and administrative data.

Successful applicants at the level of Assistant Professor should have an emerging record and those at the level of Associate Professor or Professor should have an established record of obtaining extramural funding. While the position will primarily focus on research, prior teaching and mentoring experience is a plus. Teaching expectations are minimal as the Division does not offer graduate programs in health economics or health services research; however, the Division is involved in medical education and graduate programs including Translational and Health Systems Sciences and Bioethics. The Program is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the areas of health policy, healthcare quality and costs, decision modeling and cost effectiveness evaluation, health disparities, social determinants of health, pharmaceutical drug utilization, policy impact evaluation, and research using large existing claims or electronic health record datasets (Medicare claims, AHRQ HCUP, Veterans Affairs system, PCORnet). All outstanding applicants are encouraged to apply.
The Program in Health Services Research was established in 2019 within the Division of Public Health Sciences to serve as a research base and a resource to advance collaborations with clinical and research faculty across the medical school and the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist system.
The Division of Public Health Sciences includes 69 faculty and 225 staff in four vibrant academic departments: Social Sciences and Health Policy, Implementation Science, Biostatistics and Data Science, and Epidemiology and Prevention. The Division has consistently ranked in the top 10 of NIH funding for organizations of its type, with $30M in total extramural funding in FY2021. The Division’s overall goals are to further research in the areas of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer, aging, cognition, women’s and adolescent health, substance use prevention, community interventions, and health disparities, and to strengthen research at the school by providing consultation in the development of research proposals, study design, statistical analysis and other methodological issues. Division faculty serve as the coordinating center for numerous multicenter observational studies and randomized clinical trials. Wake Forest is a member in PCORnet, a distributed data network that leverages EHR and claims data to conduct large-scale observational and pragmatic experimental research. Specifically, Wake Forest belongs to the STAR (Stakeholders, Technology, and Research) clinical research network within PCORnet, creating enormous potential for collaborative research opportunities in health care effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and health services research. The Division is committed to promoting health equity and creating an inclusive culture by maintaining a diverse workforce and valuing each individual’s unique contributions.
The current Program faculty are based within the Department of Social Sciences and Health Policy although the successful candidate can be a member of any of the four departments within the Division. The Department is successful academic unit dedicated to research focused on improving the human condition through the application of social science and policy research on health and health care.
