Assistant Professor, Pennsylvania State College of Medicine

The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) of the Penn State College of Medicine is seeking applicants to fill a faculty position (tenured/tenure-eligible) to conduct health economic research. This position will have a primary appointment in the Department of Public Health Sciences. PHS faculty members conduct independent and collaborative research on the etiology, prevention and treatment of diseases and illnesses toward promoting health of all Pennsylvanians and the nation. The Department consists of three academic divisions, namely, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, and Health Services and Behavioral Research. There are more than 50 faculty members in the Department (26 tenured/tenure-eligible) and more than 100 supportive staff members.

The Department provides strong infrastructure support in biostatistics, study design, data management, research computing, project management and finance and administration. The graduate programs for the Department include an MS in Public Health, a Master of Public Health (MPH), a PhD in Biostatistics and a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), which enrolled its inaugural student cohort in Fall of 2016. With its location in Hershey, near Harrisburg, PA, PHS has a strong collaborative relationship with public health scientists and practitioners within the PA Department of Health. PHS faculty members often collaborate with clinical faculty across the United States as well as within Penn State University. The successful applicant will also be affiliated with the Penn State Center for Applied Studies in Health Economics (CASHE). As a member of CASHE, the faculty member will be expected to assist with CASHE-related studies and the development of CASHE-related educational initiatives.

Applicants with a strong publication record and demonstrated ability or potential to build and sustain an extramurally-funded research program are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the Department’s graduate programs of teaching and student mentorship in addition to developing and teaching a three-credit course in health economics to be offered once annually.
