The Department of Health Care Organization and Policy, School of Public Health, University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks an assistant, associate or full professor tenured or tenure earning faculty member. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D./Sc.D. in Economics, Health Services Research or related social/behavioral science discipline with a focus on health. The candidate should have research interests in outcomes research, cost-effectiveness analysis, clinical decision making, and research methods. The candidate will be expected to mount an independent research program and to collaborate with others in the department, as well as other social scientists and clinicians in an interdisciplinary setting. The candidate will be expected to be competitive in obtaining extramural funding to support his or her research and a portion of the candidate’s annual salary. Initial duties include teaching Cost-Effectiveness and Decision Analysis.
The UAB School of Public Health (SOPH) is accredited through the Council on Education for Public Health. The UAB-SOPH has more than $39 million in active grant research and five academic departments. The school is also home to a number of public health practice-oriented centers including the Center for the Study of Community Health, Deep South Center for Occupational Health & Safety, Lister Hill Center for Health Policy, Sparkman Center for Global Health, Alabama-Mississippi Public Health Training Center, and Preparedness and Emergency Response Learning Center. The five departments within the SOPH offer training in more than 20 major specialty areas and engage in numerous interdisciplinary training programs with the Graduate School and the various health professional schools at UAB.
The Department of Health Care Organization and Policy conducts research as well as providing training and education at the undergraduate, master and doctoral level. The undergraduate degree is a general B.S. degree in Public Health offered through the School of Public Health. Departmental Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degrees are offered in health policy, health care organization, general theory and practice, maternal and child health policy and leadership, outcomes research, public health preparedness as well as coordinated degree options in business, optometry, public administration, nursing, social work, and juris doctorate. The department’s Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree has concentrations in Public Health Management, Maternal and Child Health Policy and Outcomes Research.
