Call for Papers – HHES, 2023; Highland Health Economics Symposium, June 4-6, 2023, Scotland, UK

We are pleased to invite you to submit a paper for the second Highland Health Economics Symposium (HHES) to be held June 4-6, 2023 at The Drury, Oban, Scotland. The conference will provide a global forum for path-breaking health economics research critical to public policy, financing and technology innovation. Up to five papers will be selected by the organizing committee for presentation. Up to two presenters for each paper will be eligible for travel and lodging honorarium. Brief panel discussions with medical industry experts will be woven into the program. Additional attendees not presenting papers will be invited to participate in the program and sponsored activities such as the whisky sampling and evening Cèilidh.

Now Accepting Papers – 1 March, 2023 Submission Deadline. Please submit abstracts (one page), and/or complete paper drafts if available.

Papers may cover any topic from the field of health economics. Presentation format will be a discussion of the paper by author(s) followed by participant discussion and questions. Full papers will be required in advance of the meeting.   For an illustration of paper quality see last year’s sister 2022 CHES program here.

Submission Requirements: 

●     Papers/Abstracts must be submitted by 1 March, 2023 (midnight, Hawaii time)

●     Full paper or extended abstract (one page)

●     Include names and organizations of up to two presenters

Presenters will be notified by 31 March, 2023


Honoria will be available for up to two presenters for papers selected for presentation. Scholarship will include lodging (double occupancy) for up to four nights (nights June 3 to 6) and airfare to the UK (up to $1,000 for travel).  As of January 7, 2023, non-stop round trip airfare from New York City airports to Glasgow was under $800 for travel dates June 2 to 7.

Major activities in The Highlands

If you choose to self-pay, other hotels in the area are available.  Oban is easily accessible by rail or coach directly from Glasgow.  

If you have a travel budget governed by US travel rules: The max US Department of State per diem rate is: $330 and max lodging is $230. AirBnB is possible too with many local houses for rent.

International airport closest with coordinated symposium travel transfers is Glasgow (Airport Code: GLA) which can be reached directly from several major US cities including New York, Philadelphia, Orlando as well as Asia city access through Emirates airlines.  Great airfares (and possibly a volcano visit as well) via Icelandair.
